Face Contouring Tutorial

by

Recently face contouring has left the glamorous stage of runway shows and slowly infiltrated itself in our daily lives. Whether you are preparing for a night out or just casually strolling down the city center, face contouring has become an essential part of every chic woman’s makeup. This easy face contouring tutorial will walk you through all the steps of shaping and highlighting your best traits.

Contouring is a makeup technique that aims to subtly enhance, define and even reshape a person’s facial structure. It makes use of matte shades that are two times darker than your normal skin tone to shade that a person wants to define or reshape such as the cheekbones, nose, forehead and chin.

The contouring is always paired with highlighting. Highlighting is achieved with concealers or highlighters and it complements contouring by accentuating areas of the face. Shades that are two times lighter than your skin tone are used on areas of the face that naturally capture light such as the bridge of the nose, under the eyes, above and under the lips.

The technique for Face Contouring Tutorial

Step 1

First and foremost start by applying the makeup base on the entire face using a flat Brush. This step is essential for ensuring that the makeup is durable and lasts the whole day.

Step 2

Next, apply the foundation using a brush and then spread it evenly across the face using a beauty blender. You can use a light or heavy foundation, it all depends on how many imperfections you want to cover up.

Step 3

Now take a dark tone foundation and apply it to the cheekbones, forehead, jawline and sides of the nose in order to accentuate the face’s features.

Step 4

Pick a foundation that has a lighter shade and apply it to the T of the face – the forehead, nose, under and above your lips.

Step 5

Use a buffing brush to spread the foundation until you achieve a shadow effect. Use a beauty blender here as well to achieve that perfect airbrush finish.

Step 6

The next step calls for applying a concealer under the eyes, in a triangle and on the bridge of the nose. This step is important for adding a touch of brightness to the face as well as covering up those signs of fatigue.

Step 7

Use a clean fluffy brush to apply a translucid fixing powder. This step is important for achieving a durable and smooth makeup.

Step 8

With a flat brush add a dark toned powder over the same zones that you highlighted initially with the dark foundation. This will add intensity and resistance to the contouring

Step 9

Apply a light blush to the cheek bones

Step 10

Last but not least apply a highlighter. This little touch will add that glam effect to the contouring.
