Today we are sharing with our favorite DIY Exfoliant and showing you how to make a coconut oil and baking soda face scrub that is perfect for every skin type.
Why Baking Soda?
Baking soda and coconut oil work together in treating redness, acne, scars and removing excess oil, dirt and dead skin cells. By mixing these two different ingredients you target every goal that a skin cleanser aims to achieve.
Baking soda is most commonly used for cooking and baking, as well as a polishing agent. However, you might not be aware that it is also an essential active ingredient used in many cosmetics such as toothpaste and deodorants.
Baking soda is also highly effective in fighting acne. It is an amphoteric compound that can be used to correct the skin’s pH, thus aiding the healing process. An unbalanced skin pH can often lead to breakouts
Why Coconut Oil?
On the other hand, coconut oil has powerful healing, antibacterial, and moisturizing properties that can help nourish, condition, and soothe your skin. It is a much gentler product compared to the baking soda, therefore by mixing them together you balance out baking soda’s harshness.
By combining the two, you not only achieve a very effective cleansing agent, but also one that is safe for all skin types, including extremely sensitive skin. You can use any kind of natural coconut oil that you have available.
Why Tea?
The black tea in this recipe serves as the scrubbing agent. You want something natural to complement your two other ingredients and black tea with its strong antioxidant properties is a perfect fit.
